Photograph caption dated October 1, 1947 reads, "Ernie Johnson, Bruin halfback, was a brilliant standout throughout the contest with his slashing runs, timely passing, beautiful kicking and generalship at the signal calling spot. Here's an example of his fleetness on an optional pass play, Ernie toting the ball for 18 yards. Oregon man behind him is Woodley Lewis trying to catch up with him."
