Description
Scope/Content: US Navy amputating / surgical instrument case with historical note; from note: This amputating case was made by Evans of Philadelphia Pa. for the U.S. Navy for the War of 1812 - and was sold with many others at auction after the war. It came in this way into the possession of Frederick J. Judson who was an M.D. in 1820 but after this entered Yale College and graduated in 1824 - He died in 1862 and I purchased it...I cheerfully present it to you, my nephew, Dr. Sterling Bunnell as a Christmas gift - this 25th day of December 1909. Very Sincerely, Geo. F. Lewis, M.D. Yale 1866.
