Title supplied by cataloger. Photograph caption dated February 11, 1983 reads, "Car, carrying the dead driver, was careening at 60 mph on the Santa Ana Freeway until quick-thinking driver averted further tragedy; pushed car carrying dead man against guard rail till it stopped." Timothy Andrus, 33, of Los Angeles, was traveling southbound when a spare tire hit the hood of his Buick Regal and caved in the windshield, killing him instantly. An off-duty fireman from Fullerton, Andrew Banks, saw the out-of-control Regal and decided to nudge his van against it to slow it down; the van guided the car for 3 miles from Santa Fe Springs to Buena Park, where it came to a full stop. The Regal is shown here in a Buena Park Police lot.
