Between August and Sept. 1929, U.S. Army partnered with Boeing to conduct air refueling experiment. Boeing Hornet Shuttle (Boeing Model 95) piloted by Ira Eaker and Lieut. Bernard Thompson flew nonstop transcontinental flight sustained solely by in-flight fuelings.
