Description
Photograph of a panoramic view of Pershing Square in Los Angeles, ca.1930. The park is pictured in the center foreground, its treetops obscuring some of the buildings behind it, which include The Biltmore Hotel and The Philharmonic Auditorium. To the far left, the factory-style Detwiler Building can be seen, attached to which is a sign for "State Life of Indiana". Farther right, the Pacific Mutual Building can be seen, continuing on to a part of the park filled with palm trees. To the far right, a congested city street is visible next to the Hotel Portsmouth which is just visible in the foreground and features a sign which reads "Agents for this Property: S.I. Wales Co., 650 S. Grand Avenue". Other legible signs from left to right read: "Warner", "Harris and Frank Society Brand Clothes", "Best Quality Luggage for Less: Everything for the Traveller", "Bankrupt Sale", "Barber Shop", "Arnold Glove Grip Shoes", "Wilsons Dancing Studio", "Tait's", "The Owl Drug Co." and "Time to Insure".
