One woman sits and holds the hand of a Congolese girl, dressed in a smart, white dress, and another Congolese girl sits at the feet of Mr Cole, wearing a striped blazer. Women wear smart, floor length Edwardian dreses whilst men wear trousers with blazers. Palms can be seen behind the group, and they are pictured in front of fencing made of branches. The photograph was taken by Dr Harry Guinness, and from left to right, the group comprises: Back row: Dr Harry Guinness (dark jacket with light trim and hand on hip) Mr Howell Mr Luff Mrs McKittrick Mr McKittrick Mr Gibson. Front row: Mr Cole Mrs Cole and Miss De Hailes. This slide comes from a collection generated by missionaries working for the Congo Balolo Mission, a mission begun in 1889 under the supervision of the East London Training Institute for Home and Foreign Missions that developed into the interdenominational evangelical mission, Regions Beyond Missionary Union after 1900.
