The chemist sits on the left facing the right in a lightly-colored lab coat and large glasses. He holds the polarscope by a lever on its bottom as he looks through the eyepiece. The polarscope is pointed at a dark cylinder presented on a small, metal stand on the left. Glass, corked bottles of liquid can be seen around the experiment n the long, dark table while others are stacked neatly with their labels facing out on the shelves behind him.
