Description
Photograph of a view of the corner of North San Joaquin Street and Channel Street in Stockton, ca.1907. San Joaquin Street is at center and disappears into the distance at center. It is bordered on both sides by utility lines, sidewalks, and three-story buildings. Two sets of streetcar tracks run down the middle of the street. The spire of the Central Methodist Church sticks up above trees in the distance at center. A man is standing on a street corner at right, and a row of horse-drawn vehicles are parked along the left side of the street.
This is a view of North San Joaquin Street at Channel Street in Stockton, California. To the right is the County Jail, known as Cunningham's Castle, built in 1907. The Western School of Commerce is to the left. The Central Methodist Episcopal Church steeple is visible in the distance. Sheriff Thomas Cunningham served the County for over 25 years
this building served as the second county jail for the community of Stockton and was not demolished until the 1960's.
