On Sunday January 14 [1962], civic and patriotic organizations gathered at Campo de Cahuenga. The Treaty of Cahuenga was signed between Lieutenant Colonel John C. Fremont and General Andres Pico on January 13, 1847, at Tomas Felix' six-room adobe farmhouse here, and ended hostilities in California between Mexico and the United Stated. The result brought nearly a half-million acres of land under the United States' jurisdiction. The Recreation and Park Department-operated facility shown here is a replica of the casa where the treaty was signed. Located at 3919 Lankershim Boulevard, Campo de Cahuenga is registered on the National Register of Historic Places, #72001602. It is also designated California Historical Landmark #51 as well as City of Los Angeles City Historical Monument #29. Photo dated: January 11, 1962.
