Description
Annotation translation: "Printed HB [Heidenbote] 1938/7. The man climbs the tree by using a belt made of palm-ribs. There are often accidents. The palm is tapped where leaves [i.e. fronds] join the stem by removing a leaf." Annotation: "Cl. HB 1938/7. Der Mann besteigt die Palme mittels eines Gurtes aus Palmrippen. Unglücksfälle sind dabei nicht selten. Die Palme wird an der Wurzel der Blätter angezapft durch Entfernung eines Blattes." Note: " ... Die Palme liefert in einem Monat 80 Liter Palmwein. Auf dem Bild männliche Blüte sichtbar." Note translation: " ... A palm tree yields 80 litres a month of palm-wine. You can also see a male bloom on the photograph." Stamped: "Museum der Basler Mission, Basel, Missionsstrasse 21."
