Description
Photographic portrait of three high priests in China, ca.1900. Three men with their hands tucked into the sleeves of their robes are shown at center in the courtyard of what appears to be a temple. The priest in the middle wears quilted, darker-colored robes, a pillbox-style cap and stands on the first step to a kiln or urn of some kind. The other two monks, dressed in matching lightly-colored robes and hats with long ear-flaps, flank him to either side. A gate and a pagoda-like structure is visible in the background.
