Description
Photograph of the Matson-LASSCO steamships Lurline and Mariposa moored at Berth 158 at the Port of Los Angeles, 1940-1950. The two massive ships are at center. Both have light colored hulls and superstructures, and two smokestacks can be seen amidships on both vessels. Large Ms are painted on the stacks to designate the Matson line. The Lurline is closer to the viewer, with the Mariposa berthed directly behind. In the foreground, the cabin of a tugboat can be seen at right, while a big wooden barge is piled high with scrap materials at left.
