Assignment by Henry Nakano for period VIII History class taught by Mr. Harry Bentley Wells, a teacher at Manzanar High School. Henry discusses the schools at Manzanr. Initially, the parents worried if there would be any schooling. But Dr. Carter (Superintendent of Schools) reassured them that school would start in the fall. Initially the school did not have enough chairs or textbooks. He mentions the Manzanar Riot briefly as a cause for school to break for a month. When school started up again on January 18, the rooms had been insulated, and there were enough chairs and textbooks for everyone. Transcription is found in item: ecm_wells_9031. This collection includes correspondence, memos, reports, student papers, grade book, commencement program, prom invitation, and other memorabilia from the eleven months H. Bentley Wells was employed at Manzanar.
