Description
For the past decade various models of health behavior have been utilized in an attempt to increase organ donor registrations. It has been assumed that because being an organ donor can impact someone else’s health, it should be considered a health behavior. We disagree. Organ donation is not a health behavior. It has no impact on the health of the person engaging in the behavior. One would be hard pressed to find another health behavior with a similar lack of personal impact. In this talk, we will propose several theories and models from areas such as volunteerism, compliance, and consumer behavior that are more appropriate for the behavior of organ donor registration than the current usual suspects.
