Description
A memorial print depicting a monument to Abraham Lincoln which contains a bust portrait of Lincoln and the inscription: "To Abraham Lincoln the best beloved of the nation". Columbia, wearing a plumed helmet, her right hand resting on a sword, covers her eyes with black bunting and leans on the monument. At the feet of Columbia is a scroll labeled "Emancipation Act" and broken shackles. Also at the base of the monument is a slain dragon. Three owls sit perched at the top of the monument beneath an urn draped with the American flag, while an African American man stands behind the monument, back turned to the viewer, covering his face with his hands. Further in the background is a bloody battleground. In the sky, above all, is an angel holding a palm frond.
