Description
This January 18, 1954, photograph looks northwesterly, away from West Sacramento and toward the Port of Sacramento and what will - as seen in the upper, left-hand corner of the photograph - be the entry point for the deep water shipping channel. Once completed in 1963, the 55,000,000 dollar channel would enable freighters to move 40-miles inland from Suisun Bay and 80-miles inland from the Golden Gate Bridge. The center of the channel was dug to be 140-feet deep.
