Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Mission San Gabriel, ca.1870. A tree is pictured in front of a picket fence in the foreground, to the left of which stands a horse and to the right of which stands three women and a man. The thin, tall adobe building of the mission is situated in the background, bells arranged in the six arched portholes in its upper left side. Stairs lead to the entrance in the distance at the right. Pillars attached to the front wall appear to support the structure. To the far left, a shorter adobe shack stands behind the picket fence and a collection of trellises. The ground in front is grassless.
