Description
Photograph of panoramic view of Los Angeles looking east over Spring Street, showing construction in foreground, 1949. In the foreground, a wide road can be seen curving from the left along the bottom of the image. A small fence has been erected along the side of the street. At least six people can be seen on the sidewalk near the fence. Within the fence, piles of construction materials and a small ditch are visible. The construction shown is of the Santa Ana/ Hollywood Freeway underpass from Fort Moore Hill. In the background, groups of rectangular buildings, including such buildings as Union Station (in the upper middle), the Brunswig Building (immediately below) and the Pico House and Merced Theater (to the right, and across Main Street), can be seen. Near the center of the photo is the "L" intersection of Republic Street & New High Street. A vacant parking lot sits between two of the structures, and three automobiles can be seen parked along the curb outside the parking lot.
