Los Angeles Mayor Fletcher Bowron addresses a crowd commemorating the USS Los Angeles (CA-135) at Los Angeles Harbor during a Navy Day celebration held on October 27, 1945. The sign hanging behind Bowron reads, "This fighting ship sponsored and made possible by war bond purchases of the people of Los Angeles. Captain John A. Snackenberg, commander of the ship, stands to the right of Bowron.
