Description
A stereoscopic photograph, "Cactus Fence, on Spring St., L.A.," by Payne, Stanton and Company, Los Angeles, California, USA, circa 1882. The view shows what apears to be a peddler with packs on the front and back of his body standing near a a picket fence, a trellised gate, and huge cacti serving as a fence. This is for the "Round House," an 1840s adobe built by Ramon Alexander, a French immigrant, but which was later owned by German native George Lehman, whose "Garden of Paradise" beer garden operated there for many years. After Lehman lost it, it was razed in 1887. The mount is heavily soiled and rubbed, while the image is soiled, so the overall condition is fair.
