Description
View 1 (2013-1717). Shows Ruth Mitchell with her pet deer, Lo-Lo-nie and her two dogs, Beau Dick and Trek -- view 2 (2013-1718). Shows Ruth on horse, Scout, start of a forty mile journey over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Big Sur. Ruth Comfort Mitchell was born in San Francisco in 1882 to John Samuel and Florence Standish (Mowatt) Mitchell. Married William Sanborn Young in 1914. They settled in Los Gatos on a cattle ranch. She wrote novels, short-stories, poems and plays. Her husband was elected to the California State Senate in 1925, serving until 1938. Ruth was active politically. She died in 1954.
