ELCT, the North Western Diocese, Tanzania, 1984. Evangelist Simon Kibarabara with his Bible. When the photo was taken he was 84 and a widower. At retirement in his sixties, he was given a Bible instead of a pension, as only pastors had a pension. Missionary Gudrun Larsen asked him if he did not regret having only the Bible and no pension to support himself. He answered: 'No, if I had been given a handful of money, I would simply have spent it, but now I have been given the Living Word of God'. Simon Kibarabara and his wife were of great help to Gudrun Larsen - they encouraged her, when she needed this, and put her right when that was needed.
