Chart showing the peak production amounts and discovery dates for California oil fields. Each field, 15 in all, is indicated by name on the chart, the year of discovery is indicated on the X axis, and amounts in millions of barrels are measured on the Y axis. The 15 fields have reached a total output of 12 million barrels or more in the their peak year. This record exceeds any other section of the world. Moreover, a number of these fields hold the record for the volume of production from discovery to their peak period, such as Santa Fe Springs, which reached the phenomenal total of nearly 80 million barrels in 1923. Photo sponsored by the Federal Writers' Project. The chart was drawn by D.C. Newmarch, dated October, 1936.
