3 sets of cuttings. Latin. Cuttings of decorated letters from a choirbook (or several choirbooks) arranged according to the letter: I or M or G. Title from printed catalog. Support: Parchment. Script: Gothic. Layout: (i) 7 cuttings of the letter "I" from the same manuscript as HM 47642, with six lines of text and music on four-line red staves, ca. 34 mm. high (430 x 80 mm; other letters ca. 130-180 x 45-60 mm). (ii) 5 cuttings of the letter "M,", four from the same manuscript as HM 47642, and one in another style, presumably from a second manuscript. (iii) 9 cuttings of the letter "G," six from the same manuscript as HM 47642, ca. 110-140 x 50-75 mm.; two from (ii) above, ca. 70 x 75 mm.; and one from HM 47642 or a third manuscript, painted, ca. 95 x 95 mm., with four-line red staves ca. 34 mm. high. Music: Music on 4-line red staves. Span folios: 3 sets of cuttings. Mainly from the same manuscript as HM 47642, with some from a second manuscript (an initial M) and some (2 or 3 letter Gs) from a third. All three manuscripts written in Italy. The "M" initials framed and glazed, the frame with a printed label "P. J. BACHMANN / FINE ARTS / 1908 S. Figueroa St. / Los Angeles Cal.," the probable source of all parts of HM 47642 and 47643. Alice Millard (d. 1938), rare book dealer of Pasadena. Mounts and labels inscribed in pencil with stock(?)-numbers, e.g. "#18," and "from the Millard Collection" and "formerly PSS 389."
