Description
The entrance to the Crystal Creamery at 1013 D St. is captured in this Aug. 13, 1939, photograph. The company was founded in 1901 by George Knox, but it was not until 1921 that Carl Hansen took ownership of the company. By 1931, Hansen had introduced store-bought bottled milk and ice cream to Sacramento. In the decades to follow, Crystal added a number of other items to its product line. Hansen died in 1958, but Crystal remained a family concern until its sale to the Massachusetts-based HP Hood LLC in spring 2007.
