Description
This circa 1925 photograph shows a group of uniformed soldiers in front of the Armory of the National Guard of California, located at Twelfth and W streets. Built in 1914 by the Ransome Company and various sub-contractors, the structure's first resident unit was Troop B, First Calvary of the California National Guard. It also hosted a performance by John Philip Sousa to a crowd of 3,500 in January 1924. The armory was razed in 1964 to make room for the new East-West Freeway.
