Printed on reverse: Santa Catalina Island (volcanic origin) is believed to have been once part of the mainland, and at various times as been submerged and elevated similar to the whole coast of California. The average height of the Island is 1500 feet, except at the Isthmus, which is only 20 feet above sea level.
