Six Papuan men and eight boys pose on two levels under a large thatched roof that stands approximately thirty feet high. The back of the postcard has a handwritten note in French and contains a printed title: "MISSION DE PAPOUASIE - Maisons en forme de gueule de crocodile ouverte (Cote Sud)." ("MISSION OF NEW GUINEA - Houses in the shape of an open mouth of a crocodile (Southern Coast).") The back also contains printed information about the publisher: "Missionnaires du Sacre-Coeur - ISSOUDUN. - Reproduction interdite." ("Missionaries of the Sacred Heart - ISSOUDUN - Reproduction prohibited.") The missionaries of the Sacred Heart were a Catholic order.
