Connie and Janelle begin the interview discussing the various characters in the book, and Janelle’s motivation for writing the book and its setting in the Silicon Valley. They then move on to discuss the superficial relationships in the novel that characterize the individuals’ circumstances, and the collision between conservative and liberal values.
