Description
This photograph was taken at in the Randol Shaft of the New Almaden mines, at a depth of 1500 feet. The photographer used magnesium light, a process developed by Robert Bulmore and Dr. S.E. Winn. The use of magnesium light made it possible to take high quality photographs of the dark interiors of the mines. Ore was loaded onto trams, which ran on narrow tracks laid throughout the mines.
