Photograph of "ladies having a smoke around a fire. Nearly all the women smoke pipes in India. Many of them 'chew' as well. Notice the cakes of cow dung to right of fire pan. With their hands they beat the cow dung and stick it on the wall to dry. When it is dry it burns very well. A good housewife washes her floor with a thick mixture of cow dung and water every day. It is considered very healthy and gives the house a sacred odour."
