Description
Photograph of a street bordering on the Chavez Ravine oil field, ca.1930. A residential area dotted with houses and foliage gives way to a strip of oil derricks behind a utility pole-lined road. Two wooden derricks stand at right, with a house-like structure built beneath the first. In the background sits a two-story house with adjoining garage. Across a line of trees, to the left, other houses can be seen, and a lone person walks down the sidewalk towards them. In the foreground is a field strewn with garbage, which lies across the street from the oilrigs. Lines from utility poles string through the background.
