Description
Photographic portrait of men posed around a mule-drawn streetcar at the corner of Downey Avenue (north Broadway) and Pritchard Avenue (Lincoln Park Avenue), Los Angeles, March 1889. Two men in conductor's uniforms stand to the fore and the aft of the car while two men in civilian clothes stand between them, one on the running board of the car. A fifth man stands inside the car, obscured by shadows. Two mules are hitched at left. The home of Baron Rogniat can be seen on the hill in the background, which later became the site of the Lincoln Heights High School in 1942 after the Rogniat mansion burned down on May 17 of 1891.
