Los Angeles County was officially declared a disaster area on July 21, 1960 as up to six fires raged out of control, including fires in Sunland-Tujunga, San Dimas Canyon, San Gabriel Canyon, Big Pines, and Magic Mountain.
Photograph caption dated July 21, 1960 reads, "Shirley Faulkner, left, and Nancy Durffee, right, pause to feed their babies, Barry, 6 months and Denise 8 months, respectively, after evacuation from Sand Canyon Nike Missile Base housing project. They were moved to Community Building, Highway 6, when fire threatened homes."; See images #00114972 through #00114975 for all photos in this series.
