Description
The coral tree by the Pepperdine University sign at the Malibu Canyon Road entrance appears here in August of 1973 still braced by twine. During the construction of the campus, the tree made national headlines when efforts to move it from its original Hollywood location became tied up in the municipal bureaucracy. Finally, with the support of Governor Ronald Reagan, the tree traveled to Malibu via the Pacific Coast Highway by truck in the dead of night. The tree was a gift to the university from Mr. and Mrs. William Palmer in response to the "Trees for Pepperdine Malibu" program. On reverse: "8-3-73". complete;
