Mary Pickford was a Canadian-born silent film actress, famously known as "America's sweetheart," co-founder of American Artists film studio, and one of the original founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The group may have been planning a membership event for the Mary and Joseph League, an organization that raised funds to build and maintain a retreat center in Palos Verdes for married couples.
