Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated April 13, 1954 reads, "Enjoying the brilliant spring flowers carpeting the hillsides in the Fairmont district, west of Lancaster, is lovely Rochelle Kahler, 16-year-old Antelope Valley Joint Union High School junior. With other teen-age horseback enthusiasts in the Valley she often rides her quarter horse 'Duchess,' over the hills. Nature's display in the west Antelope area includes vivid orange California poppies, purple lupine and bird's-eye gilia as well as cream cups and fiddleneck. Visitors to Valley wishing to view the colorful blossoms should take Highway 138, west from Highway 6, out of Lancaster, to between 110th and 170th Street."
