Description
A sketch of how the Sacramento Academy and Female Institute, located on eighth and M street, looked circa 1853. The school was opened in 1853 by James Stratton, tuition and board at the school cost $250 for each 25 week session. The Sacramento Academy moved to another location on L and seventh street, the building was rented as a grammar school with room set aside for high school students in 1856. This became an early beginning of Sacramento High School, the high school was moved temporarily to another location on K and fifth street a couple years later.
