Four Africans are standing on the bridge and Missionary Johannes Kretschmer is sitting on the right. Imprinted on the image: "Brücke über den Kewira. D.O.A. No. 1324b." ("Bridge across the Kewira River. German East Africa No. 1324b."). The imprinted "O" has been crossed out with blue ink and the imprinted number has been crossed out with black ink. -- The name of the river was also spelled "Kibila", "Kibira" and "Kiwira". Today its name is Kiwira. It is situated near the southern border of Tanzania with Malawi. -- Johannes Kretschmer (1867-unknown) was a missionary of the Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine. He served in Rungwe from November 1892 to 1894, in Rutenganio from 1894 to 1902 and from 1904 to May 1916. In 1894 he married Anna, née Wicke.
