Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Muhittin Acar came to the U.S. from Turkey in 1994 to pursue his Ph.D. in public administration. He did graduate work at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 1994 and 1995 and received his doctorate from USC in 2001. In 2007, he became a full professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Ankara University in Turkey. Muhittin Acar (right) dances with his friend, Sakir Berber, at the Turkish-American Association's New Year's Eve Party at the Pittsburgh Sheraton in 1994.
