Description
Detailed, close-up view of a wax spoon lying on top of a piece of blue-colored cotton featuring a batik design. The wax spoon is a tjanting tool used to collect and draw with hot wax. Called raab dlav cab (Green HMong) or rab diav ciab (White HMong), it means "the object that trails or draws wax or batik." The designs being drawn here are triangular, zig-zag, and diamond shaped motifs, representing mountains separated by rivers which are often depicted on Green HMong skirts. Date derived from similar photographic print. Notes on verso read: HMong: Batik After Dying (Photo 53). Lewis Judy. *HMO.4100.00* Fall 2002 [printed label, upper right verso] Original title from SEACRC: HMong: Batik Designs (2 photos)
