Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated November 20, 1961 partially reads, "1-year-old West Valley Library, which will officially become a regional library in January, checks out nearly 800,000 books annually and is said to be the busiest neighborhood branch library in the United States. Irene Carlson, West Valley's head librarian, believes that the tremendous volume stems from the library's convenient location - 19036 Vanowen St., Reseda - which is close to the freeway and within easy access of numerous Valley communities; its large selection of books, approximately 75,000 volumes; and the increasing number of school children and adults in the West Valley area."
