Description
Photograph of an interior view of the Mission San Francisco De Asis' (Dolores) altar, taken by photographer Edward Vischer, before 1875. The altar stands at center, showing the altar rail that separates it from the pews, the altar stone, and seven statues of varying size arranged in two rows, a lower and an upper, depicting holy figures which surround a small crucifix on the lower center of the bottom row. Icons line the bottom of this decorative back wall while a stone archway frames it from behind. The silhouettes of three large candlesticks can be seen on a table to the left. More statuary is visible in compartments along the wall to either side.
