Description
Photograph showing small outcropping of rock south of the penstock of the Storrie powerhouse. Donor/Source: Rob Hanford (owned by Glenn Way) GMW 137 06 19. This photograph was taken with the Kodak camera from a small outcropping of rock south of the penstock. GMW had been installing lights for night work at the time, and hiked over to this point to take the picture. Anchors secured the penstock to the mountainside; piers prevented the penstock from sagging between the anchors. Much of the lumber for the cement forms was milled up at Bucks Lake (site); and brought to portal camp on narrow guage and then down the mountain side on the skip. The discarded lumber along the penstock was generally tossed into piles and burnt. Tex Ricard, the concrete inspector, would also make sure that all of the wood was pulled out of the concrete, and the holes filled with yet more concrete. This was to insure that water would not accumulate in those holes and weaken or errode the piers and anchors. Audio Tape #13A-000.
