Description
This 1913 photograph shows the front entrance of Mary J. Watson Grammar School, located at Fifteenth and J streets. Originally built as Sacramento Grammar School in 1872/73, the school was renamed in 1910 to honor longtime principal Mary J. Watson, who left the school in 1895 after 27 years of service in Sacramento schools. She had been severly injured in 1891 on school grounds by a falling limb.
