Featured on page 68 of Electronics in the West with this caption: "Three of the Bay Area 'hams' who became nationally known in electronics. Above, Frederick E. Terman in 1917 with spark gap transmitter, crystal detector, one-tube amplifier. He listened to voice from Herrold's San Jose station and to code from others as far away as Fred Roebuck in Phoenix, Arizona, before Fred moved to California."
