Description
Photograph of a view of Western Avenue looking north from Leighton Avenue, 1924. To the left, a Kirman Plumbing truck makes its way along the paved road with the rest of the two lanes of traffic. Behind a tree to the right, the building that would later become Martin Luther King, Jr. High School can be seen, the American flag waving from its flagpole. Commercial buildings line the street to either side. In the left foreground, a Pan-American Petroleum Co. gas station can be seen, behind which the independent Ventura Gas Station can be seen. To the right, behind the high school, the Premium Gas Station is visible. Other legible signs from left to right read: "Tell us your tire troubles", "Vulcanizing, Tire Repair", and "O'Neal Hardware".
