Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph included in the exhibit: "From Hula Hoops to Hanoi: L.A. Concerns, 1954-1965." The Villa Cabrini Academy became available upon its discontinuance in June 1970 as a Catholic grade and secondary school for girls, due to a "shortage of religious personnel." Founded in 1905 by the late Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini as a "preventorium" for children predisposed to tuberculosis, the mission became a resident academy in 1937. During the three decades that followed, expansion added 18 buildings, the latest one, a dormitory. Photograph caption dated July 10, 1965 reads, "Flower girls, front from left, Annette Bonde, 4, of Burbank; Cheryl Anne Garcia, 5; Dine Figliuzzi, 8, all of North Hollywood, offer prayers to Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Villa Cabrini Academy, 7500 Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank. They will lead a procession at the eighth annual feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 11 a.m. tomorrow on the academy grounds."
