Near Point Arguello, Edith describes the Santa Rosa ship wreck, as she was on another boat sent a wire message to assist the passengers and crew of the Santa Rosa. She adds an update at 6:30 pm that the ship has broken in two pieces and another update at 6:30 am the following day that they stayed by the ship wreck during the night and the passengers were taken ashore. At the end of her letter, she mentions that she is near her San Francisco destination.
