Description
This Nov. 11, 1932 photograph shows a football game at Sacramento Stadium on the Sacramento Junior College campus at 3835 Freeport Blvd. The stadium was later renamed Hughes Stadium on Nov. 18, 1944. Built in 1928 for $140,000, the venue was intended to seat 25,000, with an eventual expansion to 70,000. It was designed by the Sacramento architecture firm of Dean and Dean. In the pictured game, Stockton's University of the Pacific defeated Sacramento Junior College 20-12 before an Armistice Day crowd of 6,500.
